Brooklyn, NY, USA – 12th July 2023. A tall steeple, bedecked in lilies and carrying a band, is borne on the shoulders of parishioners and paraded through the parish as part of the Feast of Our Lady of Mount Carmel in Brooklyn's Williamsburg neighborhood. The steeple, or “giglio,” is bounced, or “danced” in the street several times during the 11-day feast, including this “night lift.” The procession of the giglio down the street is done in stages, each stage led by a capo, who here directs the lifters to turn the giglio.
